How Does Mediation Work?

After the MIAM (Mediation Information & Assessment Meeting), you will attend sessions together with the mediator.

Mediations vary depending on the issues but normally there will be between one and five sessions of about 1½ hours each, with an action plan between sessions, so that matters can be progressed. Under normal circumstances, an average mediation on all issues (finance and children) can be done over three to six meetings.

If the issues are just relating to arrangements for the children, this can generally be one in one to two meetings.

In mediation, remember all sessions are voluntary, and will only continue if both you and the mediator feel you are making progress.
